“AaaHHHHHHH!”

It’s official…I have “Grandma-knees.”

There are many tell-tale signs that old age is sneaking up on you.  In an article written by, Angela Epstein for the Daily Mail we can look for everything from sneezing fits to longer teeth and even getting tipsy more quickly!

(Well, that explains a lot about our recent trip to Napa Valley.)

The pitch of your voice changes – men’s voices get higher, women’s drop.
Your ears, nose and feet get bigger.
Moles increase, watery eyes develop, and you’ll clear your throat more often too.

And over the age of 50, we start putting on 2lb to 3lb a year!

This is not only because we become physically less active, but as we get older research indicates we lose muscle mass. This loss of muscle slows down our metabolic rate – so our predisposition for storing fat increases.

I guess that means less of these while I’m sitting around in an airport…

As well as keeping active, Doctor’s recommend regular light weight training to build up and maintain muscle. Some of the recommended activities sited in Angela’s article are:  Use light hand weights and do 15 arm curls three times a day.  Try squats to help build up muscle in the legs. Sit on the edge of a chair and stand up without using the arms of the chair for support. Repeat several times, three times a day!!

I follow several great fitness bloggers, one of my favorites is Chape Fitness because he blogs not only about workouts for all fitness levels, but he’s sure to add playlists and wonderful quotes that help to motivate his followers.  He also encourages daily activities as a beneficial form of exercise!

“An early-morning walk is a blessing for the whole day.” Henry David Thoreau

And that’s why I do so very hope this particular activity will do!

“AaaHHHHHHH!”

(Giggles.)

So, even though I am indeed getting older I can happily report:
getting old is not all bad news…

Grandma-knees and all!

  1. Love your humour particularly when we need a lighter start on Mondays and a bit of a giggle. May we never be too old for laughter and being able to laugh at ourselves. Growing older is such a blessing (from one who is a bit further on than you are) hugs and thanks. BLESSINGS!

    1. Isn’t she though?? Her deep, Katherine Hepburnesque voice is to die for and we cherish the times we are able to be together. (And she has her daddy’s dimples too.) Hugs & thanks for stopping by to share the giggles with us!!
