Award Shows??

Nope.

Not. For. Me.

I had to recently google the latest star-studded event, the Golden Globes,  to simply understand what was the ‘dress in black’ theme all about? As well as the ‘me too’ hash-tag.  And finally listen (for myself) to the homily given by Oprah, which I found on youtube.  But, I only did any of this because I saw so much chatter going on in cyber-space that I was utterly confused.  Why were the Golden Globes, and in particular Oprah Winfrey, a prolific topic for so many posts?  And what I determined was…

I think I’ve become an Ostrich since Lent.

I use to follow the national news reports hourly; however, this past Lenten Season I decided to “fast” from watching the News.  And you know what???

I loved the freedom and relief from the drama SO MUCH that…I haven’t returned.

(Yes, I’ve totally embraced the ‘leaving my head in the sand’ life-style.)

Instead I’ve limited myself to one hour of reported news in the AM and another one-hour evening update.  Two hours of daily news reports is adequate and about all I can handle in the current climate.

I do have news & weather alerts on my phone, in the event there is any urgent information I should be aware of; such as, amber alerts or another snowmageddon hitting the (814) – which is highly probable!

I’m not going to weigh in on the Golden Globe issue(s.)  I am highly allergic to drama and therefore try to maintain my cyber-space as an allergen free zone.

Simply one comment, if I may, regarding a particular thing Oprah did say:

“…what I know for sure is that speaking your truth is the most powerful tool we all have.” Oprah Winfrey

I mean this with the greatest respect for all she has accomplished and the worthwhile causes she has championed for.  But, um, the only truth is T-H-E Truth.

Joseph Wulfson, political writer at Media-ite, does a nice job explaining this from a   secular perspective,  Oprah’s Crucial Error: Speaking ‘Your’ Truth Isn’t a Powerfull Tool, It’s a Poison.

However, my (one) comment comes from a religious perspective.

I know that typically, we look at the facts as the truth, but that is only one way of looking at truth. There is another way of looking at truth and that is the person, Jesus Christ.

Ephesians 4:15 “Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ…”

I love the Lord, because he not only tells us what truth is, but he also tells us how to treat one another as Truth itself. God loves the truth, but he also wants us to treat each other with love, kindness, and respect. If more people lived out THE truth, there would be no need for YOUR truth because when we embrace Jesus as Lord and Savior, we also embrace the way he treated people while he was on earth.

Thereby eliminating the need to wear all black.

Or the tragic need to proclaim ‘me too.’

And that’s a hash-tag I would promote.

  1. Like you Dawn Marie, I don’t watch those silly “award” shows—-I have very little patience for the entertaining elite and their self absorbed mindset.

I also have not listened to Madame O’s little speech either as I can only image….

Oprah is a good and emotional performer—and that is the bottom line with her…performer. But I will say that she whole heartedly believes in her performance.

I learned long ago that Oprah waffles—she would jump on the latest passing band wagon with great gusto…crying from the roof tops the latest and greatest out there—pouring in her energies and growing great wealth to further and champion her latest cause—then something else would come by, catching her eye, and off she’d go chasing that elusive notion. As her behavior mirrors most of ours… we seek the shiniest object….

She now has the fortune a massed needed to pretty much do and say what she darn well pleases as others just try grabbing hold of her coat tales.
Oprah is a spiritualist with a little s—-she jumps on to belief in cultural norms, willing things to be a certain way.

I almost spit out my coffee the other morning when I read the headlines “Oprah thinking about running for president”
That’s all we need—and the sad thing is, so many will be willing now to jump on board because Oprah is the queen of feel good—she’s going to tell you what you want to hear and then cast cash outward to make it so…..

Oprah will claim to yield to a greater power, but that power is now a power that she has created—it is the central power she believes as an energy found out in the universe….she will not proclaim God as omnipotent, she will name claim Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior because Oprah is all inclusive—and God and Jesus say that there are some rules to live by—there are some things in society and our culture that are wrong, incorrect and must be renounced…as God and His Son are the only way…..but Oprah and her followers don’t want to renounce their lifestyles of choice preferring to go their own way—because they have convinced themselves that whatever floats one’s boat is perfectly fine—

Yep, we’ve got problems—and as you so succinctly state as our tTruth is not man’s truth, as there can only be One Truth—and that is the Truth of the Omnipotent God found in the saving Grace of Christ Jesus!

Too bad college football is over—nothing left to watch on the telly 🙂

    1. Thanks for sharing your thoughts Julie. And I appreciate your feedback! All excellent points & I saw the same headlines regarding the upcoming Presidential race……in 2020!!!!! (giggles) Time will tell…but this is certainly a good reminder of why limited news will continue for me if they’re reporting already on a matter that will not even occur for another 3 YEARS!! 😂 I’ll start praying now for the brave candidates who will throw their hats in the ring! Hugs n’ blessings!

  2. I too, chose to avoid the award show. In my mind, this award show was created to honor individual exceptional skills achieved by those in the entertainment field. It was NOT designed as a political forum for entertainers to express their political opinions. If I want politics in my life (which incidentally was my major in college) there are plenty of appropriate venues to turn to; celebrity award shows (in my opinion) isn’t one of them.

    1. Thanks Doc! You’ve provided some very powerful points and I agree with you that there is a time and a place for everything. A political major, wow!! What a wonderful representative you would make! Hugs n’ blessings and I truly appreciate you ‘weighing in’ on the matter!
