uninterested

I will instruct you and teach you the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you.” Psalm 32:8

God’s Words have (definitely) taught me a lot.

The Saints’ lives have taught me a lot.

Author Bob Goff’s books have taught me a lot.

Maya Angelou’s poetry has taught me a lot.

JJ Heller’s music has taught me a lot.

Beautiful lyrics…

Certain movies have taught me a lot.

And yes, even COVID-19 has taught me a lot!

Gratefully, there has been meaning in it all!

Through the people & things in my life…all of it…has had profound meaning in who I am, and who I yet hope to be.

To wonder too openly, or intensely, about the meaning of life sounds like a peculiar, ill-fated and unintentionally comedic pastime. It isn’t anything an ordinary mortal should be doing – or would get very far by doing. A select few might be equipped to take on the task and discover the answer in their own lives, but such ambition isn’t for most of us. Meaningful lives are for extraordinary people: great saints, artists, scholars, scientists, doctors, activists, explorers, national leaders….

If ever we DID discover the meaning, it would – we suspect – be incomprehensible, perhaps written in Latin or in computer code, giggles!

Yet, in truth, the subject IS for everyone; it is for ALL of us to wonder about, and define, a meaningful existence.

A meaningful life is close-to, but at points importantly different from, a happy life.

And the question of “what makes life meaningful” has to be answered personally – despite our varying idiosyncrasies.

OTHERS cannot be relied upon to determine what will be meaningful to US.

We have to work out, through a process of experience and introspection, what counts as meaningful in our OWN eyes.

And thus, I am more & more interested in the people & the things which bring a meaningful purpose to my life.

More so, I believe equally important is – what I am uninterested in pursuing.

Because it ultimately brings undeniably little meaning to the life I strive to live –

for God and for others.

Thankfully, I am always learning!

For example: Tomorrow will be chocolate cake with salted caramel frosting & crushed chocolate covered pretzel topping!

Which will, no doubt, make one’s life both meaningful & happy!

(giggles.)

hugs n’ blessings to all those who Keep Calm & Stay Kind – especially during the political season.

*And extra special hugs n’ blessings to those who can do so while viewing fb, instagram, twitter, or the nightly news!

Preach, Paul!
