off the rails

Life is like a mountain railway
With an engineer that’s brave
We must make this run successful
From the cradle to the grave
Watch the curves, the fills, and tunnels
Never falter, never fail
Keep your hand upon the throttle
And your eyes upon the rail

Blessed Savior, Thou will guide us
Till we reach that blissful shore
Where the angels wait to join us
In Thy praise forevermore

You will roll up grades of trial
You will cross the bridge of strife
See that Christ is your Conductor
On this lightning train of life
Always mindful of obstruction
Do your duty, never fail
Keep your hand upon the throttle
And your eyes upon the rail

Blessed Savior, Thou will guide us
Til we reach that blissful shore
Where the angels wait to join us
In Thy praise forevermore

As you roll across the trestle
Spanning Jordan’s swelling tide
You behold the Union Depot
Into which your train will glide
There you’ll meet the Superintendent
God the Father, God the Son
With the hearty, joyous, plaudit
Weary pilgrim, welcome home!

Blessed Savior, Thou will guide us
Till we reach that blissful shore
Where the angels wait to join us
In Thy praise forevermore
Where the angels wait to join us
In Thy praise forevermore

*The blonde singing next to Boxcar reminds me dearly of my grandmother – Doris – who always loved to sing-along with any/all old-time (especially western) songs. 💗 No doubt she would have sung right along with this post too.

hugs n’ blessings to all those keeping their eyes on the rails, in this railway of life.

  1. This is so precious to me my sweet friend!! For so many reasons! Boxcar Willie used to perform in Branson years ago. And your precious grandma. Oh, my heart ❤️. I love your words and faith!! 💛💛🙏🏻
