I’ve had an endearing framed poem hanging in our (various) homes since 1990. Ironically, even though I can barely remember what I had for breakfast, I can still recall finding it tucked neatly inside one of my favorite locally owned stores.
I love to shop local!
I also remember how I vacillated, at the time, over its purchase – as I fantasized about the life I would have if I could truly live out what the poem said.
In that moment of time it became the battle in my mind over the
cuddle vs the mop.
This particular store has changed ownership since the time of my print’s purchase and hence was replaced by a different name; however, they continue to provide unique locally-made items for purchase.
Lately, I feel akin to that local shop with its change of names.
In a very happy way.
After all these many years the same print still hangs in our (current) home. Yet, even though for me the title “Mother” in the poem has since been replaced by “Oma,” I certainly do continue to strive hard to provide & abide by it. And I do hope-itty-hope sharing it with you today will help inspire the heart-warming value between a cuddle vs a mop for you, too!
Might I personally recommend…always go for the cuddle!
Excuse this House
Some houses try to hide the fact that children shelter there,
ours boasts of it quite openly, the signs are everywhere.
For smears are on the windows, little smudges on the doors
I should apologize I guess for toys strewn on the floor.
But I sat down with the children and we played and laughed and read
and if the doorbell doesn’t shine, their eyes will shine instead.
For when at times I’m forced to choose the one job or the other,
I want to have a tidy home… but first I’ll be a mother.

Which will you choose to do?
hugs n’ blessings for all the cuddles exchanged, while all else stood to wait!

Love the poem, but love the little ones so much more! They are growing up so fast, and I’m sure they give the very best hugs and kisses! Thank you for sharing your very special blessings – the blessings of family!
