50 things to tell you.

The first 50 years of childhood are always the hardest!

What is a period of 50 years or grouping of 50?

Well, let me tell you…

“A Half-Century!”

Which means I have had a Half-Century of blessings to be thankful for!

I Hope-ity-hope if anyone ever re-enacts ME in another 50…they remember 2 important things: hats and polka-dots!

Does this mean it has been 50 years of perfect-living?

Of day after day of over-flowing joy?

IMG_5052
‘Celebration Ribbons’ are so much fun!

Of no tears nor pain?

Of only sunshine beams streaming and eating zero-calorie ice cream for my dinner?

Let me tell you…

“NO!”

“Angel of God, my guardian dear…”

But I have learned, while skipping along the way,

(even if it were to have been *admittedly*  s-l-o-w-l-y)

that the “perfection” of my life has occurred in the

Sweet Surrender of accepting God’s will.

Let me tell you…

God knows what He is doing!

God has a bigger plan for me than I have ever had for myself

and His plan far exceeds the circumstances of any one given day!

And, let me tell you…

I can hardly wait to discover what this next

half-century

will contain!

Erie, Pa is a beautiful place to have lived for 50 years.

There is so much more I would like to sing-song-say,

but if I could only tell you 50 things

I’ve discovered during this first half-century

Let me tell you…

  1. Let go! Let God!
  2. Peace on the outside comes from knowing God on the inside.
  3. Start each day with a grateful heart.
  4. The older I get the surer I am that I’m not running the show!
  5. Life is not meant to be perfect…it’s meant to be LIVED with all its imperfections.
  6. We aren’t called to shine our own light; we are called to reflect His.
  7. Find joy in the ordinary.
  8. Pray hardest when it is hardest to pray.
  9. Not my circus.  Not my monkeys.
  10. Let it be.
  11. Don’t worry about others opinions of you.  God never told you to impress people; only to love them.
  12. Character is how you treat those who can do nothing for you.
  13. Learn to say “no” without explaining yourself.
  14. Sometimes not saying anything is the best answer. (Silence can never be misquoted.)
  15. We aren’t called to be like others, we are called to be like Christ.
  16. To forgive takes love, to forget takes humility.
  17. Heaven is not a prize for the perfect, but the future home for all who are willing to be perfected.
  18. Sometimes you’ve just gotta accept that some people can only be in your heart, not in your life.
  19. Let all that you do be done with love.
  20. God refuses nothing.
  21. Until God opens the next door, pray in the hallway.
  22. Faith means that you have peace, even when you don’t have all the answers.
  23. Having a soft heart in a cruel world is courage, not weakness.
  24. A certain darkness is needed to see the stars.
  25. Say you’re sorry, ask for forgiveness, and mean it. Truly.
  26. Be prepared when you pray to God to defend you against your enemies, you may lose a few friends.
  27. Each day is a decision!
  28.  You can’t but God can!
  29. Take care of your body as if you were going to live forever; and take care of your soul as if you were going to die tomorrow.
  30. You can be the ripest, juiciest peach in the world, and there’s still going to be somebody who hates peaches.
  31. Everything is going to be alright.  Maybe not today but eventually.
  32. On a bad day…there’s always crochet!
  33. If it doesn’t make you feel fabulous; don’t do it, don’t buy it, don’t keep it.
  34. No one heals themselves by wounding another.
  35. NO ONE will ever love you more than Jesus.
  36. Hope is the only thing stronger than fear.
  37. Life becomes easier when you learn to accept the apology you never got.
  38. Someday it’s going to make sense!
  39. For what it’s worth:  it’s never too late to be whoever you want to be!  I hope you live a life you’re proud of , and if you find that you’re not, I hope you have the strength to start over.
  40. Do the next thing.
  41. Be confident because you are a child of God.  Be humble because everyone else is too.
  42. The unhappiest people in this world, are those who care the most about what other people think.
  43. God often uses small matches to light up great torches.  No matter how small you feel in this world, He has something big in store for you.
  44. Surround yourself with the dreamers and the doers, the believers and the thinkers, but most of all, surround yourself with those who see the greatness within you, even when you don’t see it yourself.
  45. A few nice words can help a person more than you think.
  46. It’s okay to say no to unnecessary crazy.
  47. Sometimes it’s better to react with no reaction.
  48. Never get tired of doing little things for others.  Sometimes those little things occupy the biggest part of their hearts.
  49. We don’t stop playing because we grow old.  We grow old because we stop playing! AND LAST BUT CERTAINLY NOT LEAST…..
  50. It is good to have an end to journey toward; but it is the journey that matters in the end.

I pray my humble-attempts at living out

this half-century

has been pleasing to Him…

but even perfect people (of which I am not) make mistakes

(that’s #51 I’d like to tell you!)

Where I have failed I pray, with God’s help,

to do better this next half-century

so that I may celebrate

2 Solid-Gold 50’s someday!

JUST IN CASE YOU THOUGHT

was about a 3-day Weekend.

I do not know your name–

Nor for which battle you died.

I do not know your home,

Nor the tears that were cried.

I do not know where you rest–

Nor the promises broken.

I do not know your uniform

And your fears lay unspoken.

But, I know your spirit exists–

That your courage is admired,

And your sacrifice is honored

By each soul that’s inspired.

And I offer you from my heart a

Thank You,

to guardians unknown

For offering yourselves for us all

That we may keep freedom…

Our home.

hugs n’ blessings to all the lost (but never forgotten)

Service men, women, and their loved ones this Memorial Day,

which is meant to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for Our Freedoms,

BLESS YOU…

I know I haven’t posted very muchly about the Blogging U course I began taking several days ago; however, that does not mean I haven’t been working diligently on  my assignments!

“I so verily promise!”

What I have quickly discovered is that retaking this particular course has offered me the opportunity to re-examine and re-evaluate my blog site and how it has developed over the course of the past year and a half!

I quick-it-ly decided that rather than daily bombard my reader with this personal evaluation I would compile a review of what I have discovered thus far and include a few other wonderful discoveries I happily made along the way!

Do you too enjoy an expedition of self-discovery?”

I promise if you follow along, it will make perfect sense to you, too!

If you’d like to read about Lesson One you may find it here.

Lesson Two invited us to Take Control of Our Title and Tagline.

Choosing a site title and tagline can feel like a big decision, but it doesn’t have to be.

Your title should reflect you, your personality, and your blog’s subject.

A title is typically only a few words, so consider adding a tagline as well — a phrase that appears under your title and helps flesh it out. Think “Burger King: Have It Your Way.”

My site, of course, is titled

hugsnblessings

and the chosen tagline which follows is:

GIVEN FREELY!

IMG_5922

Both have remained pin-point accurate throughout the duration of my blogging experience, thus they shall remain unchanged!!

More on how I originally was inspired to chose the Title and Tagline for my site can be found at: Say Your Name!

Lessons Three & Four I combined somewhat as both lessons involved interactions with fellow bloggers.  Lesson Three reminded us how to use “tags” to identify like-minded writers and reading material we might enjoy. And Lesson Four encouraged us to identify our own audience and that specific person (or persons) we are writing to.

“Who is my ideal reader? Is it you???

I already understood the usage of tags; however, had limited myself the opportunity to use them for my own purposes in discovering other wonderful sites out there!! I took several days to explore and visit many wonderful like (and not so like,) minded bloggers and have made some new friends that I look forward to following as their own sites develop!  Such as:

 God is in Your Typewriter,

Travel Much?,

and A Catholic Convert in Ottawa!

There are so many others that I discovered, or am already following, I am seriously considering adding a Widget to let you all know just just who they are!  But until then, or incase I never do, please don’t hesitate to ask,

“Hey, who are you recommending to read these days???”

And as far as Lesson Four’s evaluation…

I do believe my audience can be simply described as:

“Anyone looking to receive a hug and a blessing for the day!”

images

I try to share the very common aspects of my life, in journal format, to inspire, ignite, and propel others to find the hugs & blessings they are experiencing themselves, in their own lives!  Whether through the common and ordinary (and even the extraordinary at times,) they are there just “waiting” to be received!!  Sometimes we think those hugs and/or blessings only happen during the “trumpet” moments of our lives…but there are so many, many, many waiting for us to embrace in the everyday messiness of life!  I hope my site encourages an expedition to find them and I pray everyone experiences a sense of gratitude in their own individual discoveries!

“Won’t you please stop by to share your own hug n’ blessing with me?”

Lesson Five encouraged us to truly love our Theme!  Simply described, a theme is the blue-print, or template, of your blog.  I use the Ever After Theme  offered through WordPress and I absolutely adore it!  In choosing our themes we were guided by three rules of thumb:

pick something that speaks to you, consider your content, think about your priorities.

The Ever After Theme checks all three boxes for me and I couldn’t be happier!

“What do you think about my theme?”

Lessons Six (About Me) and Seven (Personalizing my site,) were very personal explorations and I welcomed re-visiting them.  My About Page has remained unchanged…and if you check it out you shall very quickly see why it has hap-happily remained the same!  And I had great fun evaluating the personality of my site with its Headers, Colors and Boarders which I have decided continue to reflect the whimsical way in which I try to embrace life!

“Do you too believe life is simply…magical???”

Lessons Nine & Ten had me again traveling through cyber-space into the Blogger’s World as we were encouraged to “Introduce Ourselves” to our blogging neighbors as well as to be inspired by the ones who we meet!  A great place to meet a blogging neighbor is at the Community Pool, which is a fun place (no swimming goggles reguired,) to meet fellow bloggers and for peer feedback and advise, along with providing a productive space for discussion. Just no running on the deck allowed!!

Last year I also joined another Blogging Community Forum called:

Blogger’s World!

This particular community was formed as an alumni group from a previous Blogging U Course I took and is filled with very supportive and encouraging bloggers from around the World!  I have learned so much from them & it is a joy being a small part of this loverly community! And please note that new members are always welcome!

“Won’t you consider joining us there??”

Image 5-20-16 at 1.48 PM

In the next several days I plan to introduce you to a few new “Neighbors” I’ve met and high-light some of the great discussion which developed as a result!

“And I hope-ity-hope,  you will be just as delighted to meet them too!”

hugs n’ blessings are promised to those who do!!
