On March 17, countless people in many countries, including Japan and Russia, gather together to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. From eating corned beef and cabbage to wearing green, parading around, and drinking green beer, people leap into the spirit of this beloved Saint’s special day.

Not wanting to be left out….so did we!!

Ireland has a large Catholic base, and Irish Catholics observe March 17, St. Patrick’s Day, as a holy day of obligation. And then they may go and celebrate with mugs of Irish ale or Irish comfort food.

remember?

In the end, we won’t remember the most beautiful face and body.

We’ll remember the most beautiful heart and soul.

An elderly man hurried to his 8:00 am doctor appointment, he wanted to finish quickly so he could get to another appointment. The doctor asked what it was and he proudly said that every morning at 9:00 am at the hospital he had breakfast with his wife. The doctor asked what her condition was and he replied that for 5 years she has had Alzheimer’s and hasn’t known who he is. The doctor asked why he continues if she has no idea who he is and the old man replied “because I still know who she is.”

It is hard to square off in the face of suffering; put on a smile and walk directly into that storm. Nobody looks at suffering every time and says, “I would really like more of that!” Suffering is painful. It chips away at our resolve. It can rock our faith.

Ironically, it is the very tool that can strengthen our faith as well.

One of the things that predominantly sets apart those who thrive is the ability to stay in righteous intimacy with God throughout the duration of the test. This is when the hearts of the believers are steeled. They become patient, grow in character, and embody hope in the face of trial.
