creativity takes courage

“Every artist was first an amateur.”

Ralph Waldo Emerson

I’m practicing how to be courageous.

And let me tell you, “It’s hard!

So I’ve let go of false expectation and instead I’ve just started to be, as Christ invites us, as a child again.

At that time the disciples approached Jesus and said, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” He called a child over, placed it in their midst, and said, “Amen, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.  And whoever receives one child such as this in my name receives me.

Matthew 18: 1-5

…like a child standing at the edge of the water – knees bent, fingers pinched over my nose, prepared to leap off feet first with one enthusiastic JUMP!

…who wonders, “Will water sneak up my nose?”

“Will my toes touch the bottom?”

“Will I make a big splash?”

…yet is surprisingly okay that

I DON’T KNOW!

Because that is what my childlike heart is screaming out at me,

“You’ll never KNOW if you don’t just DO IT!

The Jars at Cana.
Painted by Dawn Marie

I had so much fun putting paint on the canvas again!

Is it a museum worthy piece of art??

Abso-fruitly not!!

But it is my art. Homer Simpson clouds and all!!

And just like the lion from The Wizard of Oz, it’s my very own badge of courage to me.

Also, I do believe God loves it too.

Because He watched proudly the childlike glee permeate from me!

See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are.

1 John 3:1

hugs n’ blessings for all the mistakes we make

which are really only happy little accidents!

“On the third day, there was a marriage at Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there; Jesus also was invited to the marriage, with his disciples. When the wine failed, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.” And Jesus said to her, “O woman, what have you to do with me? My hour has not yet come.” His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” Now six stone jars were standing there, for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons. Jesus said to the, “Fill the jars with water.”

And they filled them up to the brim.

something in the water…

Recently my mother, sister, and I went on a girls-trip for a few days to a local cottage.

The lovely cottage we rented had everything we needed

Truly, it was only necessary to pack the essentials for our time away!

( My essentials: Yo-Yo, a Ball & Jacks, slinky, fart-gun & music.)

IMG_9234

As you might imagine we had a lovely time together.

With lots of room/time for activities!

But of course, as usually happens when one is having fun,

the time (away) goes

much too fast.

But the GOOD news is…

memories last much longer than time permits,

and God always imprints a message in our hearts,

which binds to our souls,

that we will take with us

throughout eternity.

And each time I hear the sound of the water rolling into the shore…

these memories shall stir once again.

Through the Word all things were made.

John 1:3

Psalm 33

Ring out your joy to the Lord, O you just; for praise is fitting for loyal hearts.

Give thanks to the Lord upon the harp, with a ten-stringed lute sing him songs.  O sing him a song that is new, play loudly, with all your skill.

For the word of the Lord is faithful and all his works to be trusted.  The Lord loves justice and right and fills the earth with his love.

By his word the heavens were made, by the breath of his mouth all the stars.  He collects the waves of the ocean; he stores up the depths of the sea.

IMG_9288

Let all the earth fear the Lord, all who live in the world revere him.  He spoke; and it came to be.  He commanded; it sprang into being.

He frustrates the designs of the nations, he defeats the plans of the peoples.  His own designs shall stand for ever, the plans of his heart from age to age.

They are happy, whose God is the Lord, the people he has chosen as his own.  From the heavens the Lord looks forth, he sees all the children of men.

From the place where he dwells he gazes on all the dwellers on the earth, he who shapes the hearts of them all and considers all their deeds.

My mom, sister, and I are taking a Cottage Vacation together.

When my sister & I were younger

our parents took us to a cottage on the lake for a two-week vacation every summer.

It felt like we went for 110 years, in kids-speak.

But then we both grew up….

Well…kinda.

So, this year my sister & I surprised our mother

and the 3 of us will be sharing a cottage together

for the first time in like 110 years!!

(Really just a long time in adult-speak.)

I am sure my sister & I will do many of the things we did all those many years ago.
